Elder Law is Not Just for the Elderly

Elder Law is the area of law that involves planning for complex health care, long term care, and other issues facing elderly and disabled clients and their families. It also involves estate planning, asset protection, estate administration, guardianships and the use of various types of trusts.

Providing for a loved one with a disability is also an important aspect of this area of law. Careful consideration is given to the tax consequences and the effect of any estate or asset protection plan on individuals and their families.

The time to start planning is NOW

Well drafted comprehensive advance directives (Powers of Attorney, Health Care Proxies and Living Wills), Last Wills and Testaments and various types of trusts are vital to everyone at any age. These documents help to insure that an individual's wishes are known and honored and can potentially avoid costly legal problems in the future.

Often clients do not seek the advice of an Elder Law attorney until they are in a crisis. While there frequently still are options in a crisis situation, early planning usually results in a more favorable outcome - often at a lower cost.

Regardless of your health or the size of your estate, it is important to plan for the future. You cannot put a price on peace of mind.
